The 4 Best Gourmet Cookies That You Can Find in Australia

Who doesn’t like a good cookie? Appropriate in a range of settings, cookies make the ideal accompaniment to a coffee, tea or even a glass of milk, and they come in some many different forms. There’s the classic choc-chip, the spicy variety, shortbread gourmet biscuits; there are those that may even claim that certain kinds of brownies are a sort of cookie too. The point is that there are so many scrumptious options to choose from, you’re often spoiled for choice. We’ve taken on the difficult task of listing our four favourites of the bunch. Before you hop into this delicious list, first check our gourmet biscuits collection.

Anzac Biscuits

It would be a crime to not include our national cookie on the list! Anzac biscuits are an Australian icon and have possibly been enjoyed for more 100 years or more. There’s nothing like that unique taste of oats and an almost honey taste, something that we don’t see in many other cookie varieties. The age-old recipe also includes flour, sugar and often coconut too.

The story goes that back in the first world war, Anzac biscuits were sent by wives and mothers to the soldiers, and were cooked up with these unique ingredients because they don’t spoil as quickly, so they’d be more likely to make it overseas. However, it seems more likely that these cookies were sold at various places during the war to raise money. Either way, they’re delicious!

Spiced Christmas Cookies

There is nothing that can help you get into the Christmas spirit like food can, and spiced cookies are no exception to the rule. Containing a delicious mix of sugar, cinnamon, and butter, these delicious biscuits are often presented in various Christmas-themed shapes whether that be Christmas trees, stars or even presents in some cases. Icing sugar on top as decoration is also quite common, though some gourmet cookies may not.

You can generally find spiced cookies at supermarkets through the Christmas months and most gourmet food suppliers too!

Chocolate cookies

Arguably the standard by which other cookies are judged, the chocolate cookie has a number of different varieties within itself. While the choc-chip is clearly the most popular and iconic, it’s not uncommon to see espresso, white chocolate chips, vanilla, brown and other ingredients thrown into the mix too. There are even macadamia-chip cookies available these days which are pretty tasty themselves. The chocolate dough can also be used.

Needless to say, there are more than a few recipes for this cookie, which originated in the US back in the 1930s.

Peanut Butter Cookies

You might be surprised to hear that peanut butter cookies are even older, dating back to the early 1900s. Obviously peanut butter is the main ingredient and with the exception of sugar, butter, and egg, there are not all that many additional ingredients. They can even be baked without eggs. Simple, yet very tasty!

Whether you’re buying from a retailer or baking them yourself, we’d highly recommend any of these cookies any time of the year. There are plenty of recipes and high-quality gourmet food wholesaler available online, so do a bit of research and you’re sure to be enjoying some of the best cookies going around in no time.
